The Book of the Qur’ans by Al-Sijistani
We found some people quoting from the book of the Qur’an by Ibn Abi Dawud, and they used as evidence the narrations in it that say that there are verses that are not in the Qur’an of Othman, may God be pleased with him.
We say at the beginning that we must present the translation of the author of the book, who is Ibn Abi Dawud, and his name is Abdullah bin Sulaiman bin Al-Ash’ath Al-Sijistani, Abu Bakr Al-Hafiz,
and this is his translation:
Mizan Al-I’tidal - Al-Dhahabi - Part 2 - p. 433
Abdullah bin Suleiman bin Al-Ash’ath Al-Sijistani, Abu Bakr Al-Hafiz Al-Thiqah, The owner of the classifications. Al-Daraqutni declared him trustworthy, and said: He is trustworthy, except that he makes many mistakes in speaking about the hadith . Ibn Adi mentioned it, and said: Were it not for what we stipulated [otherwise], I would not have mentioned it, until he said: He is known for his request, and in general what he wrote with his father, and it is accepted by the scholars of hadith. As for what his father said about him, I don’t know what became clear to him about it. [55/3] Ali bin Abdullah Al-Dahri told us, I heard Ahmed bin Muhammad bin Amr Karkara, I heard Ali bin Al-Hussein bin Al-Junaid, I heard Abu Dawud say: My son Abdullah is a liar . Ibn Sa'id said : What his father said about him is enough . Then Ibn Adi said: I heard Musa bin Al-Qasim bin Al-Ashayb saying: Abu Bakr told me, I heard Ibrahim Al-Asbahani saying: Abu Bakr Ibn Abi Dawud is a liar. I heard Abu al-Qasim al-Baghawi write to him, and Abu Bakr ibn Abi Dawud wrote a paper to him asking him about the wording of a hadith of his grandfather. When he read his paper, he said : By God, to me, you are lacking in knowledge .
Al-Kamil - Abdullah bin Adi - vol. 4 - pp. 265 - 266
Abdullah bin Suleiman bin Al-Ash’ath and Suleiman bin Al-Ash’ath Abu Dawud Al-Sijistani and Abdullah is nicknamed Abu Bakr I heard Ali bin Abdullah Al-Dahri saying I heard Ahmed bin Muhammad bin Amr bin Issa Karkar saying I heard Ali Ibn Al-Hussein Ibn Al-Junaid says: I heard Abu Dawud Al-Sijistani say, “ My son Abdullah is a liar.”
Ibn Sa'id used to say: Enough is what his father said about him. I heard Musa Ibn Al-Qasim Ibn Musa Ibn Al-Hassan Ibn Musa Al-Ashab saying: Abu Bakr told me, saying: I heard Ibrahim Al-Isbahani saying: Abu Bakr Ibn Abi Dawud is a liar. I heard Abdullah Ibn Muhammad Al-Baghawi saying, and Ibn Abi Dawud wrote a letter to him asking him. On the authority of the wording of a hadith of his grandfather, it was clear to him from the wording of something other than it, and the hadith that his grandfather asked him, on the authority of Muhammad ibn Qays, Abu Saad al-Saghani, on the authority of Abu Jaafar al-Razi, on the authority of al-Rabi`, on the authority of Abu al-Aaliyah, on the authority of Ubayy ibn Ka`b. The polytheists came to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and they said, “Inscribe your Lord to us,” so God Almighty revealed And the Almighty (Say: He is God, One) and Al-Baghawi said when he read his patch: By God, I have a lack of knowledge. I heard Abdan say, I heard Abu Dawud al-Sijistani say: Among the afflictions is that Abdullah asks for judgment. I heard Ali bin Abdullah Al-Dahri say: I asked bin Abi Dawud Balray about the hadith about the bird, and he said that if the hadith about the bird is authentic, then the prophecy of the Prophet is false, because he reported betrayal from the guardian of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, and the guardian of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, is not a traitor. I heard Muhammad bin Al-Dahhak bin Amr bin Abi Asim Al-Nabil says, “I bear witness against Muhammad bin Yahya bin Mandah in the hands of God, that he said to me, “I bear witness against Abu Bakr bin Abi Dawud, in the hands of God,” that he said to me. Al-Zuhri narrated on the authority of Urwa, who said, “Ali’s nails had become hardened due to the amount of time he used to climb on the wives of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace.” He, peace and blessings be upon him, and Abu Bakr bin Abi Dawud, had it not been for our condition at the beginning of the book that everyone who spoke about him is a speaker whom I have mentioned in my book, and by Ibn Abi Dawud, his father and Ibrahim Al-Isbahani have spoken about it, and it was initially attributed to something of the accusative case, and Ibn Furat banished him from Baghdad to Wasit, and he returned it to Ali Ibn Isa, and he narrated it and demonstrated it. The virtues of Ali, then he became a sheikh among them, and he is known for his scholarship and in general what he wrote with his father, Abu Dawud, and he entered Egypt, the Levant, Iraq, and Khurasan, and he is accepted by the scholars of hadith. As for what his father said about him, I do not know what he learned from it.
Now, from what we have quoted from a translation of Ibn Abi Dawud, it becomes clear to us that the man differs in his affairs. There are those who say that he is trustworthy and those who say that he is a liar and weak. His father’s words about him are sufficient for us, as Abu Dawud is knowledgeable in wounding and ta’deel.
This is testimony that the people of the Sunnah of wounds and amendments fear for this religion, as they do not hesitate to weaken even their own children because they know that it is a matter of religion and not an easy matter, as we see among the Rafidites who trust someone who descends from the sky to narrate hadiths and fly! They document the ignorant, the immoral, and the infidels.
This is the case of the author of the book, and in looking at the narrations that were unique to him, they are not accepted due to the weakness of their chains of transmission and the weakness of the author of the book himself, and how he contrasts the frequent narrations and the authenticity of the Muslims with these weak and worn-out narrations.
This and God knows.
